Bitva mezi lobby některých velkých softwarových firem a zastánci svobodného programování a přístupu k informacím vůbec ještě není dobojována - hrozba, že zmanipulované hlasování Evropské komise z 18. května 2004 se stane součástí evropského právního řádu, je stále aktuální.
Protože až bude možné patentovat si kliknutí myší nebo
zmáčknutí klávesy budeme zoufale hledat cestu zpátky. A je nepravděpodobné, že
ještě nějaká bude. Zdůrazňuji, že to nemá nic společného s odpíráním autorských
práv či dokonce s podporou softwarového pirátství.
Jako analogie může posloužit napřklad hudebník, který si nechá patentovat
symfonii jakožto blíže nespecifikovanou posloupnost not. Každý, kdo následně
složí, zahraje a poslouchá nějakou symfonii mu musí za tento patent
zaplatit. Prosím, nenechte to zajít tak daleko.
