Sunday June 24

17:30-20:00 Welcome `get-together'

Registration; welcome drinks and refreshments at 20 Celetná Street.

The best way to get to the conference site is from 20 Celetná Street through a gate with a plaque reading `Buquoyský dům'. We will put up a conference poster on the gate. The gate takes you to a hallway where you just follow conference signs (turn right and then right again) and you will arrive at the conference building. [map]

Monday June 25

8:30 Conference begins

Official opening of the conference at the Blue lecture hall at 20 Celetná Street.

Tuesday June 26

16:15 Honorary degree ceremony

Honorary degree of Doctor of physical-mathematical sciences, honoris causa, will be awarded to Prof. D. Lynden-Bell, FRS and Prof. Dr. W. Domcke.

Honorary degree ceremony takes place in Aula Magna, the Great Auditorium of the historical Carolinum building.

17:30 Reception

After the ceremony, a reception will be hosted by the Dean of Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of Charles University in the foyer next to Aula Magna.

Participants can also visit the exhibition Einstein, Prague and Gravitation in the `Cross Corridor' organized at the occasion of the conference.

19:30 Concert

A concert by the Škampa Quartett in Aula Magna. Program:

  • Joseph Haydn - Quartet fragment in D minor, op. 103
  • Antonín Dvořák - String quartet in D minor, op. 34
  • Josef Suk - Meditation on the Old Bohemian Chorale St. Wenceslas
  • Leoš Janáček - String quartet No. 1 "Kreutzer sonata"

Aula Magna, the Great Auditorium of the historical Carolinum building, is situated inside the same complex of buildings as the conference lecture hall.

Conference participants as well as accompanying persons are invited to enjoy the entire afternoon program.

Wednesday June 27

Public lecture in the Great Lecture Hall of the Faculty of Arts of Charles University. The route from the conference site is indicated on our map.

Thursday June 28

16:00 Tour

Tour `Old Prague Physical and Astronomical'--a guided walk through the Old Town visiting places related to great physicists and astronomers.

The tour starts in front of the main Carolinum entrance and we will organize four smaller groups the first of which will leave at 16:00 and the last one at 16:15.

Optionally, if you are interested, the tour can informally continue across the Charles Bridge through the Lesser Town to Prague Castle where the conference banquet takes place.

18:45 Organ concert

Josef Kšica, the chief organist of St. Vitus Cathedral, will give a special performance for conference participants. The Cathedral is located inside Prague Castle--see below for transportation--and it is closed to the general public at this time. Program:

  • Johann Sebastian Bach - Toccata concertata in E major, BWV 566
  • Leoš Janáček - Postludium from the Glagolitic Mass
  • Johann Sebastian Bach - Toccata and fugue in D minor, BWV 565
  • Organ improvisation
19:30 Conference banquet

The conference banquet takes place in the foundry of Emperor Rudolph II within Restaurant Vikárka, located at Prague Castle. The entrance to the banquet hall is from a small square where you arrive after passing through the northern castle gate [map].

The Castle is within walking distance from the city center (for directions, see our map). Alternatively, you can take tram No. 22 and get off at `Pražský hrad' (`Prague Castle'). Turn left and you reach the northern castle gate in 5 minutes. Of course, there are many other routes to the Castle, some of them described at the Castle web pages.

Friday June 29

The conference will be officially closed in the Blue lecture hall.
